The path of discernment can be a tricky one indeed

I believe that we are all innately good, but where do we discern the boundaries of how much energy and trust we offer to those around us.

These beings in which we interact with on a daily level..
Are we listening wholly and sincerely?
What are the potentials that this person may allow us?
The lessons?
The love?

When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you. I find myself amidst the turmoil and trauma of so many families and friends, all figuring out what in their lives is worthwhile and not. Cleaning out their closets, so to speak as we all evolve into this new consciousness and global paradigm shift. The shifts have been massive, profound and catalytic across the board.

This full moon in Aries seems to be a major climax to all the cleansing that has been erupting through the lives of my tribe. As I listen intently, holding space as a receiver and safe container for the thoughts and feelings of those around me, I've experienced a bright sense of love, compassion and hope for us.

As I tune out of the analog world, and turn inwards propelled by the prayers of Nahko & Medicine for the People, I gather my thoughts on a fresh, gut-churning dilemma...

A friend of mine, not a close friend, more of an acquaintance has attempted suicide. He is a father, and recently separated from his child's mother. Amongst the overwhelming shock and confusion of how to deal with such a situation I find my heart filling with so much compassion and empathy, and yet my mind is racing to calculate how much time and energy can be diverted to assisting those involved.

My heart goes out to the mother, a new,  yet beautiful budding sister. I offer my help where ever it is needed, but still my heart battles with something. Unsure of what I retreat into contemplation.
He is a man that many love dearly, but none like. How do you help someone so desperately in need of support who rejects it? I am told this isn't the first time. Others step back, already tired of saving his life. My heart always desires so deeply for all beings to know happiness, to be loved, to love, to know contentment and bliss. But how do you offer these immaterial things to someone who to someone so deeply rooted in the ego. His actions have already been called selfish, though it pains me to say such things about someone (actions or character) in such a desperate situation. I feel truth in these statements. Is this a call to drop our own resentments and offer unconditional love regardless of whether it wanted?

It was only yesterday I affirmed, via a synchronistic conversation with a fellow traveler, that I intend to always offer my self in sincerity. Perhaps that conversation, smile or joke, could make the day of that person going through intense suffering. Maybe it's your soul mate sitting next to you at the coffee shop smiling coyly. You just never know, so I intend to always be in the now, present with a connection in that moment. Perpetuating and nourishing this idea that we can have real human connections with each other in a rapidly more dis-associative world of digital everything.

How would you deal with the selfish actions of a being in desperate need of love?
Do we love him up, only to be rejected?
Do we offer time, energy and support, only to find ourselves in the same situation?

The path of discernment can be a tricky one indeed. How much of my own life do I sacrifice for others? Where is the balance between keeping myself whole and still be able to give?

Only time and tales of life will tell.

Perhaps there is no answer. I navigate the responses of my being, listening intently, consciously to feelings in my stomach that point me in the right direction. I felt the urge to right, so I took my que. Now it's just up to you, the reader to receive it. Thank you for holding that space.

Always in loving gratitude,

Sara Yoshi Wanderhoof

The secrets out.... The Garden of Eden exists

Paradise is real, and it's in the middle of the Pacific ocean on an island called Kauai.
Most people know Hawaii as a picturesque tropical paradise, get away for honeymooners and vacationers, but I've already seen so much more than anyone would from any resort. Kauai has been oh so generous to me, and I feel like a reborn Fairy Princess. Flowers braided into my hair and more mangoes than I can eat, what more could I ask for?

And then there was Kalalau.

Hidden on the Northern shores of Kauai's Na Pali Coast, lays Kalalau. The names the Hawaiians bestowed this valley means "the one who wanders". It is a secluded rift between the awe inspiring majesty of some of the world's most breath taking peaks. The valley is laden with the abandoned stone architecture of an ancient city. Said to have been home to up to 2000 indigenous, the last people to have lived there left in the early 1900's.

I had already been enthralled by the wondrous tales people had shared with me, and this adventure was definitely tipping my excitement scales. Having grown up frolicking in the sweet depths of British Columbia's natural beauty, I have a profound appreciation for special isolated gems where one can escape into communion with nature. Though nothing could have quite prepared me for the initiation.

My hiking buddy left it until 10 minutes onto the trail, at a dark 5.30 am, to inform me that it was going to be a strenuous 11 miles (thats 18 freaking kilometres ONE WAY!)to our destination. Strenuous was a complete understatement. Recently making the world's top 10 most dangerous hikes by Outside magazine, this trail has indeed claimed lives. And it is no joke. The 7 mile marker tested my limits for will power, balancing my pack down a loose dirt pathway, less than a foot, along sheer drops hundreds of feet above the ocean. All I could do was be as present and in body as I possibly could. Ignoring the fact that there appeared to be no real path ahead of us, while my knuckles went white gripping rock ledges as I inched my way towards what was hopefully safety just around the next bend.

Click HERE for a glimpse of the beginning of the most treacherous section of the trail

If, however, you can sum up the courage to initiation via the the trail, you will be rewarded with, what I would say is at the top of the list of Earth's most epic and stunning panoramas.

Our five days in the valley was composed of fruit foraging, exploring, as many dips in the pristine river pools as we could fit in, playing music, meeting eccentric characters, and losing ourselves in the wealth of natural beauty that resides there.
A mystical week in the garden of Eden.

Wandering Infinity; afloat on an ancient paradise

Summer has seemingly slipped through my hands once again, and it feels all too familiar to be chasing a waning sun. This season has been a ripe and juicy one indeed!

After an inspiring and creative spring in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, I was BC-bound and ready for the magic of a west coast summer. That was back in May. LOL! Here we are on the verge of September and I find myself a much closer to the equator than Canada could be. My humble home & studio on Cortes Island packed up, I thoroughly enjoyed one last good frolic across the mystical landscapes. Explorations of Vancouver Island ensued with my new Beau, and summer had indeed begun! From Victoria to Campbell River, and down again. Inspired by ancient music at Nhemamusasa North, I dove deep into awe for the Shona culture and the potent power music has to offer us all. Whisked away into Tututopia, we had a brilliant time playing in ruffle patches with Kelsey Faery and Sheila Munro at BC's own Basscoast! We laughed, we smiled, and oh boy did we ever DANCE!

One thing led to another, and despite my "not wanting a summer full of festivals", we synchronistically manifested not one, two or three, but four tickets to Beloved Festival in Oregon! WOW am I ever overflowing with gratitude for that experience! Even my Mom came down! If you ever have the calling or chance to go to I HIGHLY recommend you do! It could be the life changing experience that aligns you with your very own waking dream. Stay tuned I'll get another post up soon, exclusively on my Basscoast to Beloved experience.

Departing the Beloved grounds in Tidewater Falls, I was so full of gratitude, inspiration, light and seemingly limitless love. Our journey brought us into the the homes of fabulous new friends, who I now graciously, and lovingly call family! Portland loved us indeed! I had a an incredible week in the weird city, exploring mouth watering eats, cool dips in the beautiful waterways, epic music, and heart warming people. SWOON*

In a wink, I found myself in Seattle, the city ablaze with pride as thousands filed into the downtown for the first Seahawks game of the season. I awoke in our hotel room, a restless night once again, belly full of butterflies very much ready to be let out. I can never seem to sleep the night before a flight.

I think I've been here like a week now, and it feels like my mind and spirit just finally caught up with my body. What a whirlwind this summer has been indeed! Needed a moment to ground in and grab my bearings.

Lol. I've only been here a week and I feel like I have three focused posts I want to write, but I think I'll keep it short and save them for a little later.

I'm in paradise, how can I complain about anything!? I forage fruit, do my best to try one new fruit a day. Swim in oceans, rivers and streams, sing with the wind and walk around mouth a-jar, gawking at all the ridiculously beautiful flowers and birds. I think my mantra this summer (though a bit more of a reprogramming) has been "I can't believe this is my life! WAIT!! I TOTALLY BELIEVE THIS IS MY LIFE!!"

Beaming gratitude and working on a wicked tan as I catch up on my big list of cyber work :P

Til the next one, heres some photos! Enjoy!
